On July 23rd we turn the spotlight on YOU!  Broadway Idol, a singing contest hosted by American Idol finalist LaKisha Jones, is your chance to get discovered in front of a panel of Tony Award-winning directors. They are traveling from New York just for our Festival, so let’s show them our incredible Broward Talent. We want to hear from you!

Performers, ages 18 and up, and all styles are invited to send in their submissions. See website for all the details. From our pool of submissions, up to 30 contestants will be chosen on the basis of their video to sing on stage for Broadway Idol July 23.

The inaugural Broadway Festival of South Florida (BFSF) will take place from July 21 – 23, 2017 at Miramar Cultural Center.  On July 23, the closing event of BFSF will be a Broadway song contest with as many as 30 participants singing their best Broadway song. New York Broadway Director/Choreographer/Actor Baayork Lee (A Chorus Line, Promises Promises, Flower Drum Song), Writer/Lyricist/ Director Gerard Alessandrini (Writer/Director of Forbidden Broadway and Spamilton), and Carbonell Award Winning Director/Choreographer Ron Hutchins will serve as panelists, giving participants valuable feedback in an open forum and selecting a winner.

We invite performers, aged 18 and up, and all styles to participate.  Please send us a video (use private setting if the video is housed on a public platform like YouTube) of you singing 30 seconds of your best Broadway show tune.  Selection can be sung either with accompaniment (tracks or live) or a cappella. Video quality does not matter – a camera phone is fine.  From our pool of submissions, up to 30 people will be chosen on the basis of their video to participate in Broadway Idol in person on July 23.

This competition is free to enter.  There is absolutely no cost to submit or to participate in Broadway Idol.

Eligibility:
Performers must be available to perform live and in person on Sunday, July 23, for walk through rehearsal and performance.   Candidates should be a minimum age of 18 years old at time of competition.

Evaluative Criteria:
Performers will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  • Vocal quality
  • Character
  • Stage Presence
  • Overall Performance 

Performance Information:
July 23, 7pm at Miramar Cultural Center, 2400 Civic Center Place, Miramar FL 33025.

Artists may apply by submitting a completed one-page application with link to video to our emailApplications will be accepted until July 10 and on a rolling basis thereafter.
